When traveling to South America, many choose to start their trip by making Brazil their first stop. A good majority of these travelers will fly into the Brasilia International Airport. This is one of Brazil’s most modern airports, and often handles 9 million passengers or more each year. Located in the capital city of Brasilia, the Brasilia International Airport is surrounded by a variety of nearby attractions and is considered one of the most beautiful cities in Brazil.

Once one has arrived in Brasilia, there are enough attractions to interest most anyone. One of these is the Brasilia TV Tower, built in 1967. This is a communications tower, and is one of Brasilia’s tallest structures, at 224 meters high. Another popular site for visitors is the Memorial JK, a mausoleum built as the final resting place for the late Brazilian president Juscelino Kubitschek, the founder of the city of Brasilia. Contained here are the medals and other personal items belonging to Kubitschek, as well as several pictures of the city during its construction.

One of the most recognized attractions in this area is the Catedral Metropolitana Nossa Senhora Aparecida. On the outside, it is much like other churches in Brazil, but inside, it is a work of beauty. The floors and walls are made of marble with the ceilings made of glass. Sculptures of figures from the bible, as well as the image of Christ on the cross make this an exquisite site to visit when in Brasilia.

Brasilia is home to many other unique sites the visitor may wish to add to their itinery when visiting this city. There are museums of all types, including those focused on art, precious gems and stones, the Postal and Telegraphic Museum, and the Inprensa National Museum, containing rare documents. Other sites include impressive parks, zoos, botanical gardens, and not far from the city, lagoons and waterfalls. Brasilia also boasts highly rated restaurants and clubs within the city, as well as shopping malls for any avid shoppers.

As can be seen, once one exits the plane that brought them to Brasilia, there are activities to cater to most everyone’s interest. When traveling to South America, flying into Brasilia International Airport is just the beginning of a unique visit, one that will not be easily forgotten.
